It was great to chat to everyone last Tuesday about the books that scare them in our #NPTscary twitter talk. We had some great recommended reads from and an interesting insight as to what we want from our ‘scary’ books.
To some up our thoughts on #NPTscary:
- We love psychological thrillers, we want to feel the fear the characters are feeling, the tense moment when you are not sure you want to turn the page in fear of what is going to happen next.
- Even Harry Potter got a mention as books that raised our tension levels, especially the Prisoner of Azkaban, with the mention of werewolves, shape shifters and dementors.
- Vampire books with a more grown up ‘sexy’ feel appear to have a marmite effect, you either love them or hate them!
But will Zombies be the new the new vampires?
They seem to be everywhere at the moment. Favourites of the moment include ‘Forest of Hands and Teeth’ by Carrie Ryan and ‘Allison Hewitt is Trapped’ by Madeleine Roux.
Other recommended reads;
The Diviners by Libba Bray
Misery by Stephen King
Florence and Giles by John Harding
The Woman in Black by Susan Hill
The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
November’s chat is all about alternative worlds. Are you a lover of space, the apocalypse, aliens? Then join us on twitter at the end of the month to tell us about what you’re reading and why you enjoy them using #NPTworld
See you there
